Celebration & a Call for Contributions
6,000+ FOLLOWERS, FROM 150+ COUNTRIES – AND HOPING TO HEAR FROM YOU!
For our team at www.COP26andbeyond.com it is another milestone to have won the interest and confidence of 6,000+ followers from 150+ countries, who read the blogs on our website, social media & tune into our events.
We plan to celebrate by taking active steps to invite direct contributions on some of the key climate topics that we are looking into from those of our followers who may be directly affected.
If you are impacted by one of these topics (more to follow in due course), we’d like to hear from you! We would welcome short articles of about 300 words explaining just how this topic affects you and your life, especially with one or two high resolution, non-copyright photos that you have taken yourself to illustrate the points.
Help us to show some of the critical impacts of climate change with some first hand testimony that we can share on this site.
HEAT STRESS IN CITIES, AND HOW TO MITIGATE IT
C40 cities say that today 200 million people in over 350 cities live with summer temperature highs of over 35oC (95oF). By 2050, 970 cities are expected to be this hot on a regular basis. Clearly therefore, heatwaves triggered by climate change will be critical. But some research suggests huge variance in temperatures within cities depending on the economic wellbeing of different zones, and factors such as tree cover and building materials. Does this affect you? Can you see and tell us about effective solutions and forms of ‘climate adaptation’?
THE CHANGING ARCTIC
The Arctic is said to be warming at nearly three times the global average rate. What sort of impacts are visible already, on the people and wildlife affected by these changes? What sort of major changes can we expect to see in the next ten or twenty years? We are encouraging an Italian friend and colleague who is an expert in Arctic issues to write an article for us, but we would also like to hear first hand accounts from followers who may be affected by Arctic climate change.
MELTING GLACIERS
This phenomenon is occurring worldwide, as glaciers retreat increasingly rapidly in the face of global warming. We have reported on some of the impacts, from flash flooding and landmark climate litigation in Peru to the picture as seen from Bhutan. This issue seems to us to have major implications for future water supplies for millions of people. Are you affected by it? Can you share any first hand insights into how it affects your communities, and what solutions there may be to lessen its worst effects?
YOUTH CLIMATE LEADERSHIP
We could all use some good news right now, and since we set up this website and blog, we have often found it in the truly inspiring stories of how young climate leaders all round the world have been tackling climate change in their own ways and through their own politics – from the fantastic MOCK COP, through the Earth Action Hub, the Protect Our Planet(POP) Movement, Global Engineering Futures, Italy’s All4Climate in Milan, COY16, COP26 and the many amazing youth climate leaders that we have been privileged to work with so far. Help us to get another fix of optimism and determination by sharing your stories of young people doing fantastic work to tackle climate change, and lets get them to help inspire and inform other young people and support their work!
